The photo last week shows the very top of the ornate gate straddling King Street just north of 5th Avenue in the International District (what you out-of-towners might too narrowly call Chinatown.)
I think of the gate as having been there always, but in reality it is quite new. Construction started only in 2007 after about 5 years of hoping and planning.
